Management changes at SeaWorld Parks
BALPPA Jim Dean Donnie Mills Stewart Clark
& Entertainment Jim Dean, former president of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island waterpark, has been named president of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment's Orlando parks (SeaWorld, Aquatica and Discovery Cove). He replaces Donnie Mills, who has retired after 42 years of service with the company. Replacing Dean at Busch Gardens and Adventure Island is Stewart Clark, formerly vice-president of Discovery Cove in Orlando. Meanwhile Denise Godreau has joined SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment as chief marketing officer. Her previous experience includes more than a decade at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, where she was responsible for strategies driving attendance and occupancy at all theme parks, waterparks and and hotels at Walt Disney World. She has also worked with Brandman University in Southern California, Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas, as well as Procter & Gamble, Pizza Hut and Blockbuster Entertainment. “Denise will be focused on driving increased visitation and communicating the company brand in a meaningful way to help us deliver on our strategic business plan,” reveals SeaWorld Parks president and CEO Joel Manby.

it’s in the blood! Nick Thompson is new
association chairman Blackpool Pleasure Beach deputy managing director Nick Thompson has become the first ever third generation chairman of BALPPA, the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions. His appointment to the two-year post was announced last month at the association's annual AGM and dinner in London. Nick’s grandfather, Leonard Thompson, was one of
the association’s founding members and its original chairman back in 1936, holding the position again in 1963. Nick’s late father, Geoffrey Thompson OBE, carried on the family tradition, serving as chairman in 1981 and again in 1992. “As the third generation of my family to hold this position I feel very humbled, especially as my grandfather was one
of the founding members of BALPPA,” says Nick Thompson. “Over the next two years our members here in the UK face a number of challenges, such as Brexit, and I intend to make sure that as an association we continue our lobbying to get the best for our industry.”
New CEO at Fårup Sommerland
Per Dam Jensen has been appointed CEO of the Danish amusement park Fårup Sommerland, starting April 1.
The 49-year-old will succeed Søren Kragelund who
is set to retire and sell his shares in the North Jutland tourist attraction to partner Henrik Schnack because his children are pursuing careers outside the industry. Jensen brings with him many years’ experience in the music and entertainment industries. He has worked at Fårup before, as a seasonal employee and human resources manager, returning as CEO and board member in 2012/13, before joining the film and music company Sandrew Metronome. “We are very pleased to announce Per as our new CEO,” confirms Fårup Sommerland chairman Ole Mølgaard. “He knows Fårup, we know him and we

know what he stands for. His previous experience means he can quickly take up the position.” “I have previously
stated that to lead Fårup Sommerland was a dream
position – and it still is,” says Jensen
himself. “The park has a special place in my heart, and even though I'm very happy with my current job, I was incredibly pleased to be approached and asked if I was interested in leading Fårup.” Fårup Sommerland receives 600,000 to 650,000
visitors annually. For the past two years, it has been named Europe's second best amusement park for families and has won many international awards for its emphasis on visitor service.
