Gain transparency and save resources:
Bring together safety, maintenance, and operations in one system
B
reaking down silos and connecting teams, workflows and schedules in closed loops can give a better overview and create synergies across the attraction.
Industry veteran David Bromilow describes the tendencies that are changing how many attractions operate.
Think of a rollercoaster. A closed circuit designed for thrill and enjoyment. Nothing is left to chance. Tracks configured according to the train / capacity, the precise application of G-forces and the all-important fun factor. Brakes to suit the weight, acceleration, and desired deceleration rates. Theming, timing, and speed aligned to perfection. It all comes together in mechanical harmony.
Now consider the surrounding attraction.
Do your theme park operations run as smoothly as a coaster? Probably not, but what if there was a way to imitate it and achieve the same level of reliability and oversight for all the various layers of your operations?
The thought is not unfamiliar to David Bromilow and his colleagues at Mobaro. The software and attractions industry leaders who within 6 years have conquered the hearts of many attractions, like Hershey Park, The Seaworld Group and PortAventura World, are seeing their clients utilize their solution for managing Safety, Maintenance and Operations protocols across the businesses. Naturally, most theme parks have clear divisions between their different departments. That way, ride & attraction maintenance engineers focus intensely on their field of expertise. The same goes for Food & Beverage, Retail, Facility maintenance and more. However, we find that there are considerable synergies in internal structures, says David Bromilow, Director of Park and Attractions at Mobaro.
He and the rest of team at Mobaro have discovered that clients who start out with e.g., their maintenance program, often gradually decide to include more and more inspections and tasks related to other departments. This way, what eventually forms is a centralized reference point for management to coordinate operations – as opposed to a more fragmented reality.

Having seen the amusement industry evolve through the years, the latter 6 of them have been turbocharged with transformation notes David Bromilow who has a background as a mechanical engineer:
I have been in this industry for 43 years.
I was actually a part of the change from engineers’ notebooks to the first paper-based ride maintenance checklists back in the day. The structure of it is still used to this day. However, when I joined Mobaro we converted it to digital and that’s where things really started to take off. Today, where we often start with preparing the ride maintenance and safety, it has a habit of spreading throughout the attraction. You could talk about a ripple effect, he says.
Daily, the users of the system take care of several formalized inspections and workflows that have been registered and scheduled through the Mobaro platform for automatic distribution, such as: • Preopening safety checks • Ride Maintenance checks and PPMs • Ride operator protocols • Health & Safety • COVID-19 • Retail readiness • Food & Beverage readiness and safety
Enhanced overview for management One of the benefits of collecting the workflows and resources of many departments into one system is of course the data and analytical advantages. From top to midlevel management, versatile data visualization will give any level of the business customized and thereby relevant data in real time. This way you only have to look in one place to know exactly which tasks are outstanding, which rides and attractions have been checked and how well operators perform.
The new ride operator app When speaking off achieving reliable closed-loop operations in an attraction like a theme park, one cannot leave out the rides.
In 2021, Mobaro released its new ridership app. It targets the ride operators who can update ride performance data directly to appear in Mobaro. At the same time, the inspection data from Mobaro will add a safety layer to each
ride, rendering it nonoperational should any inspections or tasks be unresolved. Mobaro serves more than 140 parks and attractions worldwide. If you want to learn more on the topics discussed in this article, David Bromilow and his colleagues will be present at this year’s trade shows, more precisely IAAPA in Barcelona and Orlando, WWA in San Antonio and Family Attractions Expo.
