Park Update

Chasing rainbows D

Family owned Paultons Park has been kicking up a storm with the opening of a new area of the park. Marcus Gaines, owner of Ride and Park Media, has the story.

elayed from opening in 2020 due to obvious reasons, Tornado Springs features four brand new rides, the reimagining of three existing rides, and a whole host of theming and charm.

Tornado Springs has the back story of being an American small town nestled along U.S. Route 83, in the heart of Tornado Alley. The fictitious town was hit hard by a tornado and its residents have rebuilt bigger and better, and prepared to harness the power of future tornadoes.

The centre piece attraction is the UK’s first spinning coaster from Mack Rides, appropriately named Storm Chaser. The layout is a near copy of Sierra Sidewinder at Knott’s Berry Farm, featuring 459m of track, a drop of 19.5m and a top speed of 59km/h. The ride offers the right number of thrills and excitement for the park’s target audience. The first drop forms the gateway to Route 83.

Al’s Auto Academy is a driving school experience where those over 0.8m can take to the seat of 1950’s style cars for a drive around Route 83. One of the unique features of this particular

driving school is that parents can jump in the car with their little ones to assist with driving or just to have more family fun together. There’s also a raised area over the top of the track ensuring families don’t miss getting a good view of the driving action.

Windmill Towers is a double tower ride attraction from Zierer offering plenty of laughs as the gondolas rotate and bounce up and down. Joining Tornado Springs is a ride that first debuted in 2003 as Wave Runner but now known as Buffalo Falls. The four-lane water slide also provides space for the Storm Chaser queue line which snakes its way through the slides support structure.

Trekking Tractors from Metallbau Emmeln first opened in 2007 but has seen the tractors be given a paint job and the typical British countryside theming and plants given a makeover so the experience is more in keeping with the Americana landscape of Tornado Springs.

One of the oldest attractions in the park, the Rio Grande Train from Severn Lamb, has also been remodelled and the track’s route changed,
