Despite a brief downturn in sales following the recent European referendum, growing awareness of specialist paints and protective coatings and their applications among professional decorators and contractors means that there are still big opportunities for merchants and stockists. Kevin Stanley finds out what’s happening.

here’s no denying that the Brexit decision caused at least a slight slowdown across
all markets including the painting and decorating sector, but reports suggest that sales were quickly
back to pre-referendum levels. “The effect was more prominent in the south and particularly in the London area. It’s a matter of overcoming indecision However, we are already seeing a positive turnaround
in the market, and we have been recording growth on growth, with strong sales throughout August and September,” says Bradite’s UK Sales Manager, James Burton. However as details on how the UK will exit the
EU are still unclear, and there is likely to be years of negotiation before the actual exit, the full effects of any changes are as yet unknown. More reason then to be working hard to increase sales.
