Editor’s note O
Welcome to the May issue of ACR News
ver the last few weeks, the air conditioning and refrigeration industry, long mooted as a hidden industry, has been highlighted in several ways.
Refrigeration had its moment in Hannah Fry’s Secret Genius of Modern Life on BBC, which explored the fridge, took it apart and
explained how it works. T e sharp-eyed will have seen the Institute of Refrigeration lend its expertise in the form of president Lisa-Jane Cook. Air conditioning has also hit the headlines, with Dean Franklin of ADL Air
Conditioning winning T e Apprentice. Since then, headlines have also been made regarding ADL allegedly failing to be an F-gas registered company between May 2020 and April 2021. Whether this is the case or not, the resulting wider attention given to illegally sold F-gases as a result could perhaps be used to create better enforcement through education of the general public. Last but most assuredly not least, the ACR News Awards took place in London. It
was a vibrant event full of positivity and energy, and full coverage can be found within these pages. Also in these pages, Sean Hurley of Star Refrigeration provides a step-by-step guide to
choosing the correct heat pump and maintenance package for an industrial application. At the same time, Stefan Garmann from Armacell examines how insulated support brackets improve energy effi ciency and durability in cold and hot service pipework. Steve McGregor of the DMA Group discusses the future of HVAC servicing and maintenance and how the latest digital solutions are transforming the effi cacy of a predictive approach. I hope you fi nd this issue informative and interesting.
