ROAD TO NET ZERO ROADSHOW MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC

n February 2022, Mitsubishi Electric held a pilot scheme in Manchester to ascertain what interest there was from customers in learning more about the regional plans for Net Zero in the Greater Manchester area.

Originally planned for a maximum of 50 customers, the response far exceeded Mitsubishi Electric’s expectations and showed that there was a real appetite for information from consultants, corporate customers and the wider contractor community. To satisfy this thirst for knowledge, Mitsubishi Electric started planning for regional events which were then held in May 2022, in Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham and London. At each event, the focus was very much

on the plans for each region, with the presentations looking at the need to take action, the local plans being put in place, and the practical solutions available right now, followed by an open Q&A session. Each event was planned as a discussion with the audience as the Road to Net Zero will involve every one of us, and no person, company or government can claim to have all the answers.

Diversity Award L

LISA-JAYNE COOK

isa-Jayne is well-known in the IOR and is a founder, chair and active member of Women in RACHP. She aims to promote and improve diversity

wherever and whenever she can, always striving to be a positive role model for others. She asks challenging questions and highlights areas within the industry where expectations of a fair and inclusive future are not moving in the right direction.

Lisa-Jayne is an advocate for diversity, equality and inclusion. In her own words: "I am not special, there are other women working in technical roles within the industry, but I am sure we can all agree that women are drastically underrepresented. I want to share the positive experiences I have had, and the joy I have found in following a career in engineering. "Often, girls and young women overlook

the opportunities a career in engineering can bring, influenced by gender stereotypes they learnt early in life. With that in mind I believe we should strive for diversity in schools and in our communities, not just in our places of work." Lisa-Jayne is a founding member of the IOR’s

Women in RACHP group overseeing the growth in women joining the group and the IOR. She says: "The number of women members in the IOR has quadrupled since the formation of the WiRACHP group. Also, for the first time ever, the IOR has three women Board members. Our industry also featured five women on the WES top 50 list to date. "Change is not brought about through some dusty policy, or lengthy mission statements; I believe that change comes from within our communities. I aim to promote and improve diversity wherever and whenever I can, always

The judges particularly liked that the heart of the initiative involved discussions with the audience as the Road to Net Zero will involve every one of us – and no person, company or government can claim to have all of the answers.

striving to be a positive role model for others. Alongside this, I am also ruffling some feathers. "I am an extremely active STEM Ambassador, delivering 50 hours of activities into schools during 2022. I took up the offer of becoming a NED at my local Multi Academy Trust during 2022, which allows me to influence and shape how education is delivered into my community. I am activity promoting STEM outreach within my company, having recently set up a support group for others wanting to become ambassadors, which is now 20 colleagues strong."
