Refrigeration Product T

ECOLITE 2.0 BITZER

he new Ecolite 2.0 air- cooled condensing units are designed to meet the needs of highly cost-conscious end- users looking for a high-efficiency, easy-to-install product made from reliable Bitzer components, that minimises energy and servicing costs while reducing their carbon footprint.

Ecolite 2.0 units are optimised for use with the new generation of lower and ultra-low GWP A2L refrigerants (R550A, R513A, R1234yf, R1234ze(E), R404A, R448A, R449A, R407A/C/F, R454C, R134a, R455A), delivering the most efficient operation for all current and long- term future refrigerants, with an operating range from minus 45°C to 0°C without liquid injection. A heat recovery option has been added, further increasing energy efficiency. The design enables end users to harness heat from the condenser that would otherwise be wasted to air, to produce hot water. Heat recovery connections enable connection to a plate heat exchanger and/or water tank, and just require an oil separator and check valve. Recovered energy is extracted and stored in the form of hot water, which can be used for process applications, heating or domestic hot water. Ecolite is designed from the ground up to deliver energy

efficiency through a combination of advanced technology and design features. Compressor capacity is managed by quick

reacting CRII–VARISTEP control, developed by Bitzer as a lower-cost but highly effective alternative to expensive inverter-based systems. It enables proportional modulation of compressor output in response to changes in load and system conditions. This gives stepless capacity modulation from 50% up to 100% as standard, and 10% to 100% as an option depending on the model. It uses a different approach to managing capacity control, based on the principle of incrementally blocked suction. This uses control pistons in combination with a bespoke algorithm to enable fine, fast- reacting control of compressor output. The control algorithm constantly monitors and adjusts output via mechanical actuators.

of the year

The algorithm in each case is configured according to operating conditions and refrigerant, allowing very precise control and excellent system optimisation. Another important advantage of Ecolite 2.0 is that, unlike some condensing units, it is based on semi-hermetic compressors, which can be repaired in the event of a problem. This extends the working life of Ecolite units and gives a major benefit in terms of 360-degree sustainability. Other units based on inaccessible hermetic compressors are effectively unserviceable in the event of breakdown, and have to be scrapped – a waste of raw materials, embodied carbon and increasing the life- time cost of ownership for end-users. The ACR News Awards judges particularly liked its versatile flexibility.
