SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
has almost 300,000 configurations to ensure customers can select the exact fan coil solution that fits their individual design application.
Filters A key objective for a fan coil unit and particularly for Diffusion’s new Highline 235 is to circulate healthy air sustainably. Dirty filters will reduce the air volume handled by the fan coil unit and so adversely affect its performance. The length of time between cleaning or replacing of filters depends upon the condition of the air passing through them, but a guide would be quarterly; more frequent servicing may be required in some cases.
Fan coil units can be supplied with either ISO
grade media filters or a lifetime wire mesh filter, like Diffusion’s ‘Eco’ filter, this option provides a robust environmentally conscious solution that can be simply vacuum cleaned in situ after shutting down the fan coil, making maintenance simple. However, if a filter needs to be removed to be cleaned it is helpful if access is easy. For example, with the new Highline 235 the filter can also be easily removed on-site from either the side of the unit or from beneath the unit. Although easy to access panels helps with filter maintenance with space at a premium many AC engineers will have encountered tricky installations that may make removing a large filter difficult, and in some cases, impossible. However, models like those within the new Highline 235 range are now available with filters split into two or three parts, this is particularly helpful on larger fan coil units and where the unit has been installed in a confined or awkward space. The split filters come out of the fan coil in segments which are coupled together. This
means if there is only access to one side of the fan coil unit both filters can be pulled out on the other side or from beneath the unit.
Condensate Drip Tray
When maintaining a fan coil unit a condensate drip tray poses a potential risk since it contains water that can become stagnant and create a health risk. It is beneficial to select a fan coil unit that has a removeable condensate tray that enables easy cleaning.
Condensate pipe blockages can also cause water to back up in the drain raising the risk of spillages. The Diffusion Highline 235’s drain connection is located at the lowest position of the condensate drip tray and fitted with a void
tray so condensate can drain away easily. As a result of these features fan coil servicing is far easier, safer and dryer. The condensate drip tray and 22mm diameter drain connection on the Diffusion Highline 235 is made from stainless steel for rigidity and longevity.
Controls
Another feature which it is important to have easy access to is the controls. Often fan coil unit controls are difficult to access. The new Highline 235 fan coils are supplied fitted with a dedicated controls enclosure that is mounted to the side of the unit for convenience and easy access, this can also be placed away from the unit should this be a requirement for your application. It is a two-layer control box with the main switch gear, the transformer and any monitoring equipment on the base. The controller sits on a protective support plate, this gives some electrical separation between the controller and the rest of the electrics, segregating mains and low voltage, thus making it safer for engineers, especially if they are unfamiliar with the fan coil unit.
So, when it comes to specifying the right fan coil for a project it is worth considering a modular one. The specifier can be assured that the latest modular fan coil units, like the new Highline 235, will tick all the right boxes. Not only will it meet energy efficiency and
sound requirements it will also enable change of use whilst allowing much easier and cost- effective service and maintenance for AC engineers.
