GARETH WALSH ICE AC

areth's apprenticeship started in 2020 at the age of thirty-six as he an opportunity to learn

new skills, leading to a qualification, with the added benefit of job security and a regular salary. He says: "The opportunity arose to join a small company, Ice Ac and to be put through a level 3 refrigeration and air conditioning course alongside working. Now in all honesty, I’d had a taster for it, while working a couple days previously for the company, so I did benefit from a brief understanding of what the job entailed. It was after working those few days that the offer was given to me to continue and be taken on within the company."

Ice Ac prides itself on offering

great customer service and this is an area where Gareth already has a strong background. He says: "I already had plenty

of experience in dealing with the general public and site teams. I am continually learning new skills, even nearly three years on. As an apprentice, I feel that questioning your abilities is always a major factor especially when you are learning new complex skills. My aim now is to continue to learn, achieve my Level 3 qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and keep taking each day as it comes, and at the same time showing my son that if you work hard, you can achieve anything you want to."

Director of Ace Ac, Stuart Elsworth says: "Gareth is a hard-working, self- motivated employee. He is creative, resourceful, and solution orientated and is always willing to ask questions and put forward new ideas. "Gareth gets along extremely well with all people and is highly respected, especially by our clients. The company prides itself on offering all clients a high standard of service. Gareth’s personal attributes uphold and contribute to

these standards, and he is a valued asset to the company." Gareth's tutor, refrigeration consultant Paul Singh says: "Gareth is the natural leader of his group and they all look up to him. He is very interested in all the lessons and gives 150%. He is questioning everything that he is being taught to gain a thorough understanding and apply it in his activities at the college and in the workplace. "He has grasped the technical thermodynamic principles very well and applies these to the complex syllabus items that he is studying. In fact, I enjoy watching him explain/ share these principles with the rest of the group. "As regards the practical aspect, he has learned a lot from his classes and the workplace. He does execute all his practical activities with deep rigour, professionalism and a high quality standard.

"It is quite clear he has set his sights on being an excellent RACHP engineer with a willingness to be very successful." Client testimonials are in a similar vein with one client remarking: "All work observed has been carried out effectively and thoroughly and Gareth has always acted politely and ethically whist on site. In some instances, he has used initiative to identify improvements across our HVAC assets, and proactively advised on ways in which to use these systems more efficiently. As a business on the road to Net Zero Carbon, this advice is considered invaluable."
