From the editor Communicate,

W

e’re in the middle of a heatwave as I write this and the air conditioning sector has

been growin g quickly these last few months. We just need a little

more heatwave type weather and the air conditioning sector in the UK will be set.

However, one of the biggest problems those at the customer-facing end of the supply chain are facing is doubt and distrust from those customers. The F-Gas price increases have, and are, inevitable as the availability of high GWP gases reduces now and over the next few years. In our industry we can understand the whys and wherefores of these increases at least at a top level, but those customers who aren’t involved in our industry can’t understand the resultant in creased bill and think the worst of their maintenance providers. Delivering bad news to customers is never easy and there’s always a risk that the customer will turn to someone who isn’t telling them bad news – but for most, options can be discussed and price rises planned for or action taken to avoid it. Delivering bad news later, when it’s a done deal and there are no options is guaranteed to turn a customer away no matter what industry you’re in.

The only way to deal with change, even with uncertainty, is to

communicate what we know, when we know it and communicate it to the l

i easy to un easy to understan d ways.
