GREEN GUIDE PART ONE

we currently have a very limited toolkit of molecules suitable for refrigerants, which our research and development teams must carefully screen to ensure suitability and then devise combinations which can be applied to real systems. Whilst searching for new blends, our team must also focus on preserving energy efficiency and safety of replacement or alternative fluids, to find the ideal solution. For decades the systems and equipment used across the industry has been developed to suit existing refrigerants and fluids, this therefore poses another challenge for our expert teams, as they must discover new fluids with a subtle difference in the balance of properties - Koura’s world leading team are dedicating their time and expertise to overcoming these challenges to provide the highest quality, sustainable innovations. Many experts in the field focus on the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of a new energy efficient blend to measure emissions and estimate their impact. The GWP is also a tangible way for policymakers to compare emissions and ensure the industry is accountable.

At Koura, we believe there needs to be a holistic approach to looking at sustainable refrigerant alternatives. The environmental impact is far more in depth than finding

a solution that has a lower GWP, our teams investigate the bigger picture of the implementation and operation to discover the overall environmental impact, to ensure a better, more innovative future proof solution is created. Finally, once the crucial research and development stage has been completed, each group within the industry and supply chain needs to understand the new product on offer - its benefits, application and opportunities for use, to ensure early adoption and the desired environmental impact.

It takes several years, significant investment and expertise to produce a safe, sustainable refrigerant with high performance and widespread application. With the phase down in full swing and regulatory bans scheduled for the years ahead, it is important that companies in this sector, at all stages of the supply chain address sustainability and ensure they focus on the development of ‘greener’ solutions as soon as possible.

At Koura we are committed to innovation, providing customers across a variety of industries worldwide with future proof solutions. Our ongoing research and development program has been a key focus for over fifteen years, with product development part of the company’s ongoing evolution.

We have a large team dedicated to research and development and have invested a significant amount into this area of the business - trebling our investment since 2012. Our aim is to produce innovative, more

sustainable products which provide high quality performance with a lower GWP, which will provide a significant improvement to current products on the market, benefiting the industry and the environment in the long term. One of our newest developments will offer a 95% reduction in global warming potential while maintaining energy efficiency, in very low temperature refrigeration compared to current technology available. This exciting development has been an accumulation of years of work and dedication and sharing ongoing dialogue with several global partners and key experts within the industry.

Ultimately, the industry is facing big

changes in the next decade; complying with regulations and drastically changing a long- standing way of working, but here at Koura we see this as a fantastic opportunity for businesses across the industry and within the supply chain to invest, innovate and grow. As the industry embarks on these changes together, it provides a future proof solution for the sector and the planet to thrive.
