As our staff are a key ingredient to our success, we have been able to draw on their strength throughout the whole situation surrounding Covid-19. This, accompanied by the solid foundations we have built over 120 years, has meant that the business could remain adaptive while giving confi dence to both suppliers and customers. Smith Brothers Stores is now fully operational with dedicated staff members inside the business focused on ensuring safety standards and government advice are implemented. We are also keen to stress the ongoing work behind the scenes to improve further as the business looks at ways to constantly evolve. We are proud that in a testing environment we have supported critical sectors – and our staff over the past few months have been nothing short of brilliant and understanding.

SBS Glasgow The opening of the fi rst Scotland-based SBS branch was necessarily delayed from spring until the summer this year in view of the pandemic and subsequent lock down. Scott Gilmour and his team will look to build

on the growth made over recent decades from the ultra-modern premises located on the Clyde Gateway East, Glasgow’s newest business site

on the south side of London Road. The site is close to junction 2A on the M74 and is just a 10-minute drive away from Glasgow’s City centre. In Scott we have someone with over 15 years of merchant experience which follows our ethos of employing experienced and knowledgeable staff . Backed by an established supply chain, everything is in place to make this branch another success.

Future plans Although attention has been obviously focused elsewhere lately, the business is still looking forward as the industry starts to regain some sort of normality with the obvious and necessary changes.

SBS remains committed to personal development, at both branch and national level, with continuous training to off er greater service and support to customers. Regarding tangible content available and

being communicated to the industry from SBS, the following activities are happening over the summer:  New Engineers Guide: New literature giving key information on the R32 Split and Sky Air Daikin units along with SBS codes and products

for the supporting ancillary range.

 Certifi ed Installer Scheme: Off ering qualifying customers fi ve days of free professional (Daikin) training, access to extended fi ve years’ warranty and certifi ed installer certifi cate.

 World Refrigeration Day: Taking place on 26 June, Smith Brothers will support the day highlighting the vital importance of the cold chain to global health and wellbeing.

On an operational level, the SBS history books will highlight the opening of our Glasgow branch due to it being a new country for us as well as expanding our network further north. The business has always been proactive at

looking internally for ways to improve and this has been no diff erent in 2020, which customers will see in the coming months. Our investment strategy is for sustainable growth through the continued development of our people, branches and product range, with the support of our suppliers and shareholders. Smith Brothers Stores will continue to maintain our desire to surpass our customers’ expectations with a level of service that will continually add value to their changing needs.
