Packaging Innovations 2017 Preview Countdown to the UK’s largest packaging event
ThePackaging Innovations, Label&Print and Empack 2017 event returns to Birmingham’s NEC on March 1-2, with more on offer than ever before, providing the perfect platform for buyers to stay ahead of the latest trends and technologies. This year there is a particular focus on branded and inspirational packaging
from and interact with the most influential names in the packaging industry. Contract Pack is a dedicated area where contract packers and manufacturers can review the many outsourcing solutions available to them in the market. It is run in conjunction with the British Contract Manufacturers & Packers Association, and will feature the likes of Lemonpath, Evolvepack, WePack, Alloga and XPO Logistics. Whether it is reducing waste through smarter
T
packaging, finding more energy efficient solutions or finding more recyclable materials, companies with an environmental agenda will be able to see how some of the sector’s brightest talents are helping to achieve sustainability targets at Ecopack. Some of these innovations will also be judged at the Ecopack Challenge. This Dragons’ Den style session will feature four short-listed companies demonstrating their environmentally responsible packaging idea to a panel of experts and show visitors. The winner will have the chance to develop their idea with Marks & Spencer. There are also several new features for 2017.
The Ideas Factory will see if visitors can find inspiration from leading experts from non- packaging based companies. This feature encourages the cross-pollination of skills across sectors, in order to see if the newest techniques and knowledge from other industries can be applied to the packaging sector. Inclusivity is a hot topic in the industry, as
companies consider the impact their packaging design has on consumers. David Wiggins of DRW Packaging Consultants will host the new feature examining how packaging can be more inclusive at the design stage. There will also be a series of interactive sensory experiments designed to test show visitors’ motor skills and sight. For the first time at the event, Campden BRI will
host a series of intimate, topical sessions for the food and drink industries. Topics discussed over the
he show this year is once again packed with content that provides visitors with invaluable opportunities to learn
two days in the dedicated theatre will range from ‘The Role of Packaging in Optimising Quality’ and ‘EU Food Contact Materials Rules’ to ‘Understanding Migration Testing’ and ‘Food Packaging: Shape Colour and Texture’.
