Newsecurity labelwith digital features S
chreiner MediPharm, a Germany-based global provider of speciality
pharmaceutical labelling solutions for over 60 years, presented its multi-functional Security Booklet-Label to the USA market at the INTERPHEX NYC show at the end of March. The new Booklet-Label solution combines several digital security features with an integrated first-opening seal. Schreiner MediPharm’s new Security Booklet-
Label is especially relevant for regulations such as EU 2016/161, which, upon enactment in February 2019, will require reliable solutions to protect patients against falsified medicines. The product’s bottom layer contains a tab
serving as a closure seal for tampering protection. When the seal is opened, a void effect emerges as an irreversible first-opening indication. Applied to a medicine carton, the Booklet-Label allows a pharmacist, for example, to view the medication’s product information without opening the pack and thus destroying the tamper protection. In addition, the label is equipped with three
digital security features, as follows: The novel BitSecure copy detection technology
is based on a high-resolution, cloud-like random pattern. In an attempt to copy BitSecure, the fake duplicate will suffer a loss in precision and optical details. While the original print is produced from a high-resolution digital master, an illegal copy is
based on a previously printed image. These variances can be checked by means of a smartphone app, a conventional scanner or a 2D barcode reader and respective software. The BitSecure pattern requires a minimal size of only a few square millimetres and can be easily integrated into the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s existing brand appearance. The KeySecure
tracing system is based on an encrypted 15-digit alphanumerical code, which makes it possible to identify and authenticate every single product item marked via smartphone or the Internet. The code can be printed in human-readable form or as a 2D code. Authentication is performed by either entering the code on the manufacturer’s website, a mobile query via smartphone or calling a hotline. A label-integrated NFC Chip enables digital
authentication using a smartphone. The NFC chip inconspicuously blends in with the label
Introducing a mid-range wrap- around labelling machine
machinery and self-adhesive labels and materials to the global packaging marketplace, has introduced a mid-range wraparound labelling machine suitable for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. features the same heavy-duty label applicator platform as Herma’s premium ‘M’ (Master) series, allowing for simple installation of printers and vision systems. The module can handle substrate diameters from half an inch to four-inches at speeds of up to 150 products per minute, and can be fitted with either an Allen- Bradley or Siemens controller, depending on customer preference. The cost-effective 152E
Wraparound Labeller is available on short delivery time from the Herma US headquarters in Fairfield, New Jersey. The machine is built around the H400 Label Applicator, the company’s signature servo-driven labelling unit, capable of achieving speeds of over 500 feet/minute. The H400 can be integrated into any production line or be built into a labelling machine specifically developed to suit individual requirements.

of NFC-capable smartphones, consumers can easily and quickly utilise this function. In addition, the automatic starting of an app for product verification is possible. Schreiner MediPharm develops speciality labels
and self-adhesive marking solutions with value- added benefits for the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.

Newcolour label printer for small businesses
Afinia Label has announced the release of the L301 Colour Label Printer, a compact, full- colour inkjet printer, capable of up to 4,800 dpi photo-quality prints. This product
expands the company’s existing line of industrial full-colour label printers, and is designed to address the needs of smaller organisations requiring professional-looking labels in lower volumes. Nathan Daniel, Afinia
Label’s EMEA sales manager, comments: “Bringing professional label printing in-house with the L301 allows brand owners the flexibility they need to grow. Instead of ordering high minimum quantities of labels from a third party, they can now print the labels they need, when they need them. The L301 also opens the door to seasonal product labelling, and private labelling on behalf of their customers.” The L301 is based upon a HP thermal inkjet printing platform that prints
labels up to 152mm wide (or up to 216mm wide, with an optional unwinder). Its small footprint, ease of use, and quiet operation makes it ideal in any desktop environment. It prints in vivid, optimised colour (up to 4,800 by 1,200 dpi), creating a professional label that catches the eye of potential customers. It is compatible with a wide range of media, so users can create the best look and feel for their brand. The L301 is now available worldwide, along with the Memjet-powered
L801 Colour Label Printer, the DLF-Series Digital Label Finishers, and the DLP-2000 Digital Label Press.
