White House Unveils Health Careers Initiative
The White House has unveiled the Health Careers Pathways Initiative, a new joint effort of more than 50 organizations designed to better match training with employer needs at a national scale.
The effort launches with three main goals, according to a White House blog post:
» Working with healthcare employers to identify the jobs and skills most in-demand;
» Upgrading training to give students skills and experiences most needed by employers; and
» Supporting job seekers, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds in advancing along career pathways to middle-class jobs.
Earlier this year, the departments of Labor and Health and Human Services hosted human resource executives from 21 healthcare systems to assess the impact of job driven training community college grants they received. One of those employers, Dr. Ram Raju, president and CEO of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, said: “As I think about transforming our system, one of the most critical elements for success is having high quality, diverse talent that can engage patients in improving their health – not just providing routine health care services.”
The Cost of Long Term Care
Genworth Financial has issued its 13th annual report detailing care costs on a national and state basis for key long term care settings, surveying more than 43,000 long term care providers nationwide.
