Senior Living Expands Internationally T


he senior living industry is poised to offer its services internationally as the world’s aging population con-


tinues to grow. With the post World War II baby boomers joining the ranks of older adults in the United States and Europe along with the accelerated growth of older populations in Asia and Latin America, the next 10 years will experience a dramatic increase of about 236 million people age 65 and older spread throughout the globe. But a distinct feature of this aging trend


is the unevenness of population aging across world regions, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau “An Aging World: 2015,” which was presented by the report’s lead author, Dr. Wan He, who spoke about her research at Argentum’s 2016 Se- nior Living Executive Conference in Denver.


For the first time in human history, people age 65 and older will outnumber children under age five throughout the world – and this crossing is just around the corner, before 2020.


The older population is projected to


almost double to 1.6 billion globally while the world’s total population will grow by 34 percent over the same period, according to Dr. He. Perhaps most startling is that for the first time in human history, people age 65 and older will outnumber children under age five throughout the world – and this crossing is just around the corner, before 2020. By 2050, almost two-thirds of the world’s


older adults will live in Asia – a trend that’s sending companies like Pennsylvania-based Genesis HealthCare to introduce the people
