PUBLIC POLICY

THE FOLLOWING FIVE STRATEGIES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY THE SENIOR LIVING PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE AS OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY ADVANCEMENT WITHIN THE INDUSTRY.

MANAGING THE ISSUES Identifying and monitoring state and federal legislative and regulatory activity

PARTNERING WITH THE STATES Mobilizing and affecting the state legislative and regulatory change

BUILDING

COALITIONS Aligning with

stakeholders and public policy partners

DEVELOPING GOVERNMENT

RELATIONS CAPACITY Strengthening industry, grassroots and political engagement

CONTROLLING THE MESSAGE Influencing traditional and social media

» Ensure the continued success of the state regulatory model for senior living operators and the residents they serve

» Raising the understanding and knowledge of the senior living indus- try among state and federal elected officials, regulators, media, consumers, customers and legal system

» Increasing collaboration and coalition building with other trade associations, government associations and advocacy organizations to meet the needs of senior living residents

“With the alignment of these initiatives,

the senior living industry will embark on a path toward responsible self-regulation and continued professionalization, which will ensure the success and expansion of the senior living model on behalf of providers and the residents they serve,” said Kenny. Achieving these objectives will require a

sustained and coordinated effort among Ar- gentum, leading industry associations, state partners, and other stakeholders. “Grassroots efforts will play a key role in achieving these objectives, providing an

opportunity to reach representatives where we live and work,” said Kenny. “It is critical that our elected officials are educated on the philosophy of resident-centered care and encouraged to advance laws and regulations that support senior living and the residents we serve.”

Be a Grassroots Advocate: There are many ways you can engage with your Senator or Representative: deliver a letter of support, send an invitation to visit your community, call their office to voice a concern, and share your community news.
