If the current trend continues, 2016
will represent the second consecutive year in which wage growth in the senior living industry outpaced the gains of all private sector employees.
Senior Living Average Weekly Hours Trend Higher The average workweek of senior living employees continues to trend higher. They worked an average of 33.2 hours per week during the third quarter of 2016, which represented a strong 3.1 percent increase from an average workweek of 32.2 hours during the third quarter of 2015. In contrast, the average workweek of
private sector employees declined in recent quarters. The average workweek of all pri- vate sector employees was 34.4 hours during the third quarter, which was a drop of 0.7 percent from the average workweek of 34.6 hours during the third quarter of 2015. Within the senior living industry, the aver-
age workweek of assisted living community employees registered the strongest growth in recent quarters, increasing 5.2 percent be- tween the third quarters of 2015 and 2016.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics also has released it latest list of the top occupations in senior living based on the number of industry jobs in 2014.
