SPOTLIGHT: THE HEART OF SENIOR LIVING

Affinity Living Group Sends Holiday Care Packages to Soldiers Serving Abroad

SHARE YOUR STORY WITH SENIOR LIVING EXECUTIVE

What does “The Heart of Senior Living” mean to you?

T

eamwork that reflects our com- mitment to professionally and respectfully work together, to ac-

complish more than when we work apart. This statement is found in Affinity Living Group’s core values and is certainly taken to heart each year during the holiday season. For the past five years, residents and staff

at Affinity have been working together to send holiday care packages to members of the U.S. military serving overseas. In De- cember 2016, they packed and shipped 175 boxes of holiday cheer to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, totaling the most packages in the program’s history. This tradition began at Affinity when the daughter of the company’s chief executive officer, Charlie Trefzger, served in the U.S. Army in Iraq.

“Having a daughter in the 82nd Airborne

provided a unique perspective on how much every soldier sacrifices during their service,” said Trefzger. “We wanted to show our ap- preciation for the troops and give back.” To fill each care package, residents and

staff collect snacks, candies, toiletries, maga- zines, books, games, and more. Additionally, those at Affinity, especially veterans, are in- vited to write and include letters of appre- ciation and encouragement for the soldiers. “I’m proud to see how far this program

has grown over just a few years. Our em- ployees have really embraced the cause,” said Brad Coley, Affinity director of em- ployee relations. Affinity Living Group has over 90 com- munities across nine states.
