Product and Service Availability

A quick look at any search engine will highlight that there are significant number of options and products available or automating or at least simplifying fleet management. The following is just a limited look at some of the companies offering fleet management systems and services. To those that feel they should have been included but have not apologies.

Capital Fleet Solutions Ltd – According to Capital Fleet Solutions, which offers van provision and fit-out services including finance options, it is vital that a van is well organised and set up so operatives can access the drainage tools they need, quickly. The company manages the complete package, from sourcing the van and sign writing, to kitting out interiors as per customer specifications. It is Capital’s goal to enable users to get on the road and delivering service as soon as possible and its extensive range of partners and providers allows it to do just that. The company has converted many different vehicles including: Ford Transit, Peugeot Boxer, Volkswagen Crafter, Mercedes Sprinter, Citroen Relay and many more.

Capital works with new businesses, offering guidance on van set ups and helping with finance (which can be challenging for a company that is just starting out), as well as established drainage engineers who know and understand just what they want.

Customers may not need a whole van set up, it may be just the van, sign writing or just the interior set up which the company can also help

Furthermore, the Direct Vision Standard came into force in October 2020. The Direct Vision Standard is a measure of how much HGV drivers can see from their cab directly. From October 2020, Transport for London will require all HGVs over 12 tonnes entering London to have at least a one-star rating and from 2024 they will need at least a three-star rating.

The DVS ‘Safe System’ is a range of safety measures and equipment that must be installed on the vehicle before a permit is applied for. To be awarded a permit users must provide proof that the Safe System has been installed.

The Safe System equipment needs to cover the following danger areas:

■ ■

■ Blind Spot vision for the driver

Warning Speakers informing the public that the vehicle is turning left

Side impact barriers | August 2021 | www.draintraderltd.com

■ DVS ■ ■

Safety Equipment Required

Audible Left Turn Sensor System within cab display and ‘Caution Vehicle Turning Left’ warning.

Nearside Camera within cab monitor to cover blind spot and give visibility.

Rear warning sign, sticker or sign warning of nearside danger to cyclists/pedestrians.

Side Impact Barriers/Rails (where possible)

Under the new regulations it is the operator’s responsibility to know that the cameras are working before sending any HGV’s into an enforcement zone.
