New ROM eSTEAM smoke generator to detect

leaks wins Red Dot Award The new eSTEAM Smoke generator from ROM has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design. This coveted award is proof that the development team has succeeded in designing a smoke generator that looks beautiful, is user-friendly and can be easily transported.

The Red Dot Award has been awarded since 1954 and is one of the most prestigious design prizes in the world, with the most important category being “Product Design”. The winner is chosen by forty design experts from all over the world.

The ROM eSTEAM is a portable, mobile smoke generator with new technology that makes it easy to detect leaks in sewer pipes, drain pipes and roofs, to monitor the course of the sewer system, and to quickly solve odour problems without digging or breaking. Eugene Plompen, managing director at ROM: “The ROM eSTEAM smoke generator has become a real eye-catcher in which design and functionality have been optimally implemented - down to the finest detail. We are extremely proud that the eSTEAM smoke generator has been awarded this prize for product design.”

Easy to use and easy to carry

The ROM eSTEAM is equipped with various smart functions for a comfortable and quick inspection.

The smoke machine has, among other things, an ergonomic handle, robust rubber wheels and a user-friendly control panel with clear OLED display. Smoke production is always visible through the checking glass, and with the infinitely adjustable electric fan, the amount of smoke can be set very finely and tailored to every situation.

Reliable and durable

The eSTEAM has a very robust exterior and interior, while the housing is made of impact-resistant PE plastic. The smoke fluid reservoir, the hose and the power cord are integrated in the design to prevent damage.

Queen’s Award for sustainability

Wessex Water is celebrating a royal seal of approval after being awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for a third time.

The water and sewerage company were nominated in the Sustainable Development category of the awards, which are the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

Wessex Water first committed to becoming a sustainable company in 1996, and its operations centre in Bath is among the most environmentally friendly offices in the UK.

A sustainability vision is embedded into all business planning, targets and day-to-day work, and the award recognises how the company has consistently scored highly for customer service, innovation and environmental performance by industry regulators.

Dan Green, head of sustainability and innovation at Wessex Water, said: “We’re thrilled and immensely

honoured to pick up the Queen’s Award for a third time.

“We pride ourselves on going beyond ‘business as usual’ in all areas, from our work on social tariffs and debt advice to catchment permitting and online nutrient trading.

“Just as when we won on the previous two occasions, this award gives us a great sense of reward and encouragement that we’re going in the right direction.”

This award highlights progress made since Wessex Water’s previous Queen’s Award win in 2013, with several new initiatives introduced.

These include expanded education work, with 29,000 students benefiting from school visits and trips to water and sewage treatment works in 2016/17.

Wessex Water has also set up its industry-first Young People’s Panel, giving sixth formers a unique insight into the business and a chance to have a say in how future bills should be spent.

Boasting a proud environmental record, the company works with farmers to reduce nutrient impacts on watercourses and has set up an online agricultural auction platform called EnTrade and an award-winning catchment permitting scheme.
