pressure to get the job done.” said Steve. “The radio remote also makes it easy for one-man operation. One of the engineers was a bit sceptical about down-sizing the van and still being able to carry equipment such as hand tools and still saws, but the vans are really well organised, so that has addressed that issue.”

“Providing cost-effective solutions for contractors really makes the difference.” said Jon Woods. “Every business is different, but having a one-stop service that includes jetting equipment, base vehicle, vehicle conversion, camera systems, ancillaries and after-care means that overall costs are clear from the outset. If it is required, financing the complete solution can also make it more affordable over the long-term.”

FINANCING IN THE MODERN WORLD

As part of the selection process as to which option to choose from, buy, hire or lease, funding the selection can be a major issue. From the buy point of view the cost of new, efficient equipment as well as its maintenance, parts, service, storage and administration, can be seen as a barrier when it comes to modernising their production operations. In many if not most cases for larger high value equipment, funding can be the make- or-break in the decision making process. As

previously eluded to, not all companies, in fact probably few, have the internal resources or access to external resources to fund a purchase fully ‘up- front’ and must resort to banks or other financial institutions or companies to cover these costs.

According to John O’Hagan of Xylem: “Opting for a rental solution removes this upfront cost for equipment, helping to keep outgoing costs under control, with various finance options available, such as the option to pay a set amount each month. Businesses can also choose to pay according to a specified rental period, or pay a fixed price for the entire solution until the job is completed. Paying only for the equipment and services needed is often a better option for short-term projects, especially when the equipment has a limited number of uses. What is more, a one-off fee can cover the hirer for the delivery, storage, installation, maintenance and administration of any piece of equipment, even in cases where it needs to be transported from site to site, or is only being used according to seasonal demand.”

Some examples of the sort of options that are available can be seen in the following provided by the companies Rioned and Andy Guest Jetters.

Whilst both can help customers in arranging bespoke finance for single or multiple units and vehicles, individually they work with a range of the UK’s leading vehicle and asset finance specialists. Typical packages are arranged over 24, 36, 48 and 60 month hire/lease periods.

Examples of jetter and van packages recently arranged for customers include from Rioned:

• An UrbanJet jetter and Ford Transit 3.5 t Euro 6 Van, including jetter installation: £158 per week over 60 weeks
