The ultimate cost of any piece of equipment therefore largely depends not so much on its original cost price but how much interest/other charges need to be paid on what is effectively a ‘loan’ contract from the financing company or organisation and/or the time period over which this payment programme runs. Let us not forget all the companies involved here from the end-users to the finance company to the equipment renter or manufacturer are in this game to make money so there will need to be a profit in it for each of the players.


Today it is possible to buy, hire and lease all sorts of equipment relevant to the drainage industry from pipe cleaning kit to CCTV inspection systems and from diggers to haulage trucks, safety equipment to trench supports and even small diameter pipe repair systems (provided you can buy the consumables). So there is no real reason why anyone on any project should not be able to provide the right equipment for the right job at the right price with the correctly trained personnel to use it.


However, just remember manufacturers make and sell equipment to make money. Hire companies buy from manufacturers to rent out equipment to make money. Finance companies fund purchases, hire options and cover lease contracts to make money. So, you as the buyer, hirer or lessee need to do your homework, must understand fully what it is you need, for how long you need it and the workload that it is required to undertake and utilise the expertise of the companies with which you are dealing, both in terms of equipment, its operation and the financing of it short or long term. Then it is more than likely that you will get the equipment you need at the price that suits your circumstances and will be fully satisfied with the outcome.
