Events News
has changed over the past two decades from ‘get out there and find out what is going to be good for us tomorrow’ to ‘you don’t have the time for this and your workload won’t allow it so they will have to come to you’. Client companies should perhaps note that it is the discussions at events such as Drain-Ex that often lead to the next generation of innovations and these are often missed or delayed when their engineers are required to stay on the job for that extra day.
There is also a responsibility on the exhibitors to let current and potential new client know that these events are taking place and perhaps entice them into coming to visit (with show discounts for example) to ensure that interaction that breeds innovation can continue into the future. Yes, you will effectively be inviting your customers to come and see your competitors products, but that does not mean they will take your custom just that you may be attracting their clients to your stand instead, the advantage is yours and the day is what you make of it.
What is needed is the willingness, already expressed by some of our most loyal and well-known exhibitors, to make these shows work and this can be achieved only by working together with the organisers in the build up to the opening day.
Drain Trader is more than open to any ideas that might be forthcoming and will consider all suggestions from exhibitors and potential visitor alike as to how these events can be made to work for the industry as a whole.
Ultimately that is the point of these events to bring together all sides of the industry under one roof to interact and interchange ideas that in the end lead to those little bits of innovative genius that moves the industry forward in to rest of the 21st Century.
Despite these difficulties Drain Trader has opted not to ‘flee the scene’ and has
decided to persist with the Drain-Ex events and is looking to establish an annual event at Harrogate, and to try to fill the massive void left by the closure of the WSW shows, and give exhibitors a quarterly event to showcase their wares. The overall opinion from exhibitors would appear to be that ‘the UK industry needs something’ and this is what Drain Trader is trying to offer.
So, please take this as a clarion call to all sectors of the Drainage industry from clients and consultants to service providers, contractors and product manufacturers. Please support us in our efforts to bring together the best in the industry under one roof, so that the innovations and best of drainage engineering can be seen and appreciated by all who need to know.
Clients may be surprised by what their staff can learn and what advantages both in terms of engineering and financially may be gained by letting their employees experience the industry that is most relevant to them in one place. Yes there is a relatively small cost involved in attending these events for clients but the potential gains can often far outweigh these visitor costs. We know that this year we may not be able to attract all of the biggest names due to other exhibition commitments, but we hope that the industry can show us and our exhibitors some support by turning out on the days, and enjoying a glass of bubbly to celebrate Drain Trader’s 20th Birthday.
Service providers, contractors and product manufacturers and distributors, we know that times are tight but with your help not just in supporting the events with your presence but in inviting your current and potential new clients to visit, you too can gain significantly from such shows. We do however need to work together to bring the best of our industry to everyone involved.
We at Drain Trader hope to see you all at these events. Full details are available from Drain Trader or from the
