Wavin hopes that The Future of Drainage will be the start of sustainable drainage becoming so common place it is known simply as ‘drainage’, following in the footsteps of other innovations like BIM.


The debate closed with a call to developers to collaborate with water management specialists. Martin said: “Innovation is needed to drive this change in perception of sustainable drainage, but we can only innovate around the prospects with which we are presented, so this issue – and opportunity – ripples wider than the infrastructure industry.”


While several manufacturers in the drainage space have touched upon the topic of sustainable drainage, there has been no concerted effort until now to create a real action plan for a more joined up, prioritised and evidenced-based response to the threat. The Policy vs. Pragmatism debate at ecobuild physically brought stakeholders together to forge and formalise a meaningful purpose and desired end goal for The Future of Drainage. The debate is now under review by The Future of Drainage taskforce, which will result in a clear plan of action for the industry to push for progress, innovation and valuable change.


The Future of Drainage debate has just begun, and we are looking for input and opinion from experts right across the industry.
