DRAIN-EX 2018: GATHERING TOGETHER THE BEST IN UK DRAINAGE

As part of our 20th Birthday celebrations, the Drain Trader magazine team is once again looking at organising a series of events that are designed to bring together equipment and service suppliers, designers, procurers, and installation and maintenance engineers and contractors from across the drainage, water and wastewater sectors.

So far Drain Trader has launched two events for 2018 that are not too far away. The first will be the Drain-Ex 2018 Roadshow, in association with the National Association of Drainage Contractors (NADC). This One Day event will take place on 18 May 2018 at the Glasgow Science Centre.

The second event is Drain-Ex 2018, a 3 day show which will take place at the Harrogate Convention Centre between 31 May and 2 June, once again in conjuction with the established and well attended Tip-ex and Tank-ex shows.

Both events are aimed at audiences comprising: Fleet operators, Civil engineers, Architects, Specifiers, Procurement managers, Surveyors, Builders merchants, Consulting engineers, Chief technical officers, Local authorities, Drainage engineers, Water Engineers and everything in between.

At both events there will be industry seminars so if you have any new ideas, innovations or research that needs to be spread across the sector please consider contacting Drain Trader with abstracts to book a seminar slot.

installation targets have taken their toll on the level of visitor attendance of shows such as Drain-Ex and similar events. Some of the major names in the sector have even taken the difficult decision not to exhibit at a variety of UK events due to continuing limited visitor numbers. Others however, have not been too disparaging about the shows they have attended with the proviso that ‘at least those that do turn out are really worth talking to’, and it has always been quality over quantity with such Drain Trader events.

This however cannot be good for the future of our industry. So now Drain Trader is asking the industry as a whole to step up and support these shows, and to look again at what is being lost with these limited visitor numbers.

The shows themselves cannot be successful without the cooperation from industry, not only the exhibitors that effectively support the shows financially but also the industry that really needs to understand what is currently to the market they work in.

Whilst it is easy to say that much of the new equipment and services can be found in on-line blogs and newsletters or the more traditional print outlets, let us bear in mind that these texts usually only scratch the surface when it comes to the detail of what new innovations can offer to the front line engineer and the procurement manager. The industry attitude towards allowing active engineers to visit events
