golfers with ties to the central Vir- ginia region, including those origi- nally from the area and those who played here collegiately. Five players with connections to the area are currently playing the Web.com Tour. A top 25 finish on the season-long money list gives them an automatic spot on the 2016 PGA Tour. Steve Marino was one of the PGA

V

Tour’s most consistent money win- ners from 2007-2011. He ran into some health issues in the following years and lost his exempt status. Now on the Web.com Tour, Marino has started strong in his bid to get back.

Marino, who played collegiately at

UVA, found himself in the thick of things at the Columbia Champion- ship in February. He birdied the final hole of regulation to force a playoff with rising star Patrick Rodgers before Rodgers knocked in an eight foot birdie putt to win on the second playoff hole. Marino followed that finish with a T26 at the Cartagena de Indias at Karibana Championship. He’s made three cuts in the six events he’s played in and currently sits 11th on the money list. Fellow UVA alum Ben Kohles is also playing the Web.com Tour this season. He’s made three of five cuts with his best finish, T31, coming at the Columbia Championship. “I have been playing solid this year

so far but have not quite got the results I have wanted,” he said. “I am confident that if I keep going in the direc- tion I am, the results will come. I know I am one of the best putters in the world and when it gets hot, look out!” That confidence with the flat stick is sure to help Kohles work his way up the money list from 102nd where he currently resides. Stanardsville native and Virginia Tech alum Mikey Moyers is navigating his

way through his rookie season on the Web.com Tour. He’s made two cuts in six starts, with his best finish a t.30 at the Cartegena de Indias at Karibana Championship in March. Moyers’ driving accuracy percentage ranks 18th on the Web.com Tour and he ranks in the top 50 in overall putting. His scoring average is 73.00. Moyers currently sits 125th on the money list.

Glen Allen resident Ted Brown has moved from playing the PGA Tour Canada to full-time status on the Web.com Tour. The Virginia Commonwealth alum has made the cut in three of his seven starts with his best finish a T54 at the Colum- bia Championship. Brown stands at

132nd on the money list. James Driscoll, who played his col- legiate golf at UVA, is playing mainly on the Web.com Tour this season but does have one start on the PGA Tour. He finished T73 at the Puerto Rico Open in March. On the Web.com Tour, Driscoll has made three cuts in his five starts. His best finish was a T36 at the Chile Classic. He stands at 114th on the money list. Richmond native and VCU alum

John Rollins is playing his 15th sea- son on the PGA Tour. He’s a three- time PGA Tour winner and has won over $18 million in his career. It’s been a struggle so far having missed five out of eight cuts. Rollins’ best finish came back in November at the Sanderson Farms Champion- ship where he finished T4. He’s yet to make a cut on the PGA Tour in the 2015 calendar year, but did finish T32 in his last start at the Web.com Tour’s Louisiana Open at the end of March. He’ll likely play on both the PGA Tour and Web.comTour in 2015.

Despite slow starts for many of our local professionals, the season is just getting started. Look for more updates on these players and oth- ers from the area, as they progress through the year.
