74.
Avoidance of designated environmental areas; Avoidance of designated heritage and archaeological sites;
Avoidance of woodland and hedgerows but with due consideration of woodland to provide screening;
Avoidance of areas of sensitive land use;
Avoidance of areas of flood risk and groundwater source protection zones; Avoidance of existing and future development areas; Avoidance of close proximity to existing services;
Avoidance of centres of population and occupied buildings; Suitable area and safe access for construction;
Avoidance of severe slopes and difficult ground conditions; Avoidance of landfill or contaminated sites; and
Sufficient site area to accommodate the proposed converter station(s).
Based on this assessment, a Converter Station Refined Area of Search was identified (Figure 4.3).
4.4.6.2 Converter Station Location 75. A preliminary visual assessment was then conducted at three locations within the Converter Station Refined Area of Search: north, west and south of the existing substation. The area north of the substation was considered most favourable in terms of visual impacts due to the presence of existing woodland screening to the north. This area was also adjacent to the onshore cable route. Land west of the substation was discounted due to the recent translocation of protected species there as part of the Bramford substation extension works.
76.
The area north of the substation was provided as the Preferred Converter Station Location within the PEIR for East Anglia ONE (East Anglia ONE 2012c). This area is shown in Figure 4.3.
77.
This area was revised further to a Converter Station Site Boundary, which incorporated the Preferred Converter Station Location and the field immediately adjacent to the north of this Preferred Converter Station Location. The Converter Station Site Boundary incorporated an area sufficient to site converter station
