Potential impact on services and road users during construction.


Site walkovers at specific locations, by both environmental and engineering specialists, were also undertaken. The walkovers confirmed the data already collected and allowed a familiarity with the site to assist with an informed approach to route corridor selection.

The identification of potential route corridors combined with engineering studies allowed the ICCA to be refined to an Onshore Area of Search in consultation with local authorities and relevant statutory consultees. The Onshore Area of Search was composed of five potential route corridors and formulated as follows:


 


     Broad 1km corridors were drawn within the ICCA;


Any designated areas, including an area of ancient woodland and a SSSI, were removed from within these corridors;


A number of villages, hamlets and Suffolk Water Park were also removed from within these corridors;


Areas were added east and west of the existing Bramford substation to provide options for locating the converter station;


The corridor at the Orwell crossing was widened to increase routeing flexibility in this area;


An area close to Suffolk showground was added to the corridor to incorporate the road verge of the A14; and


The landfall area was widened north of the Deben to match the offshore area of search.


4.4.5.4 Preferred Onshore Cable Corridor 45. A series of meetings was held with key consultees to discuss the Onshore Area of Search. Consultees included Natural England, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Babergh District Council, SCC, MSDC, SCC and SWT. These meetings yielded detailed information on the potential issues within the Onshore Area of Search (including converter station locations) and areas to avoid.

During these meetings, there was a clear preference from the statutory consultees to identify a Preferred Onshore Cable Corridor which was not only sufficient for up to four cables required for East Anglia ONE, but which would also accommodate cables for the further zonal development projects (potentially within ducts laid
