Scenario 2- Installation of East Anglia THREE onshore cables using open trenching together with installation of ducts for the proposed East Anglia FOUR project.

33. The following sections outline the iterative process by which this was selected.

4.4.5.1 Constraints Mapping and Engineering Feasibility 34. During the development of the East Anglia ONE onshore cable corridor meetings were held between EAOW(with input fromtheir consultants and engineers), the relevant planning authorities (Suffolk County Council (SCC), Waveney District Council, Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC), Babergh District Council and Mid Suffolk District Council (MSDC)), Natural England and Suffolk Wildlife Trust (SWT) to present and discuss a potential redline boundary. Following these meetings, the red line boundary was refined to provide an Indicative Cable Corridor Area (ICCA).

35. High level constraints within the onshore section of the ICCA including the landfall (i.e. from Mean High Water Springs (MHWS)) were mapped using publicly available data. Constraint maps were produced which highlighted potential corridors where there was limited or no constraint.

36.

The main constraints to onshore routeing which were highlighted were ecology, nature conservation designations, landscape and cultural heritage designations, the presence of infrastructure (e.g. roads and railways), and land use (e.g. housing, rivers and farmland).

37.

The constraint analysis exercise made a number of recommendations which shaped the final route selected. These include recommendations that:

 

 The built area of Ipswich should be avoided;

Areas between the Deben and Orwell, the Orwell and the Stour, and the north and west of Ipswich were relatively unconstrained;

The area south of the Stour would be constrained by the need for cables to cross Harwich Harbour and so a landfall south of Harwich should be discounted; and

 Marine routeing up estuaries should be considered as this would open a number of additional routeing possibilities.

38.

Particularly constrained areas for routeing were identified between Martlesham and Woodbridge, at the Orwell Bridge and at Cattawade on the Stour.
