25 ONSHORE ARCHAEOLOGY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

25.1 Introduction 1.

2.

This chapter was compiled by Wessex Archaeology and sets out the environmental baseline for onshore archaeology and cultural heritage and assesses the potential impacts to archaeological receptors from the East Anglia THREE project.

It assesses the potential impacts of the proposed onshore cable route on the archaeological and cultural heritage in line with National Planning Policy including the relevant National Policy Statements (NPS) for energy infrastructure (EN-1, EN-3) and National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) Section 12.

3.

The draft Development Consent Order (DCO) for the East Anglia ONE Offshore Windfarm comprises its offshore and onshore export cables, the converter station at Bramford and onshore cable ducts for two further projects planned to connect to the grid at Bramford. To minimise disruption to local communities, it is hoped it will be possible to install this ducting at the same time as the cables are laid for East Anglia ONE. However, this is subject to consent. Therefore, the East Anglia THREE application will present an environmental impact assessment of:

 Scenario 1: use of pre-installed ducts; or

 Scenario 2: open-trenching for cables for East Anglia THREE and installation of ducts for East Anglia FOUR.

4. The two options considered are based on the following assumptions:

 For Scenario 1 it is assumed that ducts would be installed for the East Anglia THREE cables during construction of East Anglia ONE. These would be installed along the entire length of the onshore cable route and all horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations would be undertaken at the same time; and

 For Scenario 2 it is assumed that the whole of the onshore cable route would consist of open cut trenches for East Anglia THREE and installation of ducts for East Anglia FOUR.

5. 6.

Further information on these scenarios is available in Chapter 5 Description of the Development.

This impact assessment has been completed after reviewing and updating the desk- based assessment (DBA), aerial photograph assessment, field reconnaissance survey, and Archaeology and Cultural Heritage ES chapter prepared for East Anglia ONE (RSK
