World War II gun emplacement and will have been part of the wartime defences protecting RAF Bawdsey.

Modern World War II tank trap, Bawdsey It was constructed sometime after July 1940 and consists of an anti-tank ditch, certain sections of which are modifications of existing drainage channels, with a length of beach scaffolding at the eastern end.

Possible World War II military structure, Bawdsey. A tiny circular structure, possibly made of concrete, can be seen on photographs from 1944 onwards. It may have been a single gun emplacement or a water container.

BRIDGE


Modern World War II barbed wire belt, Bawdsey. It formed part of the numerous defensive features constructed to protect the important site at Bawdsey during World War II.

Bridge crossing `Bawdsey Fleet' on Hodskinson's 1783 map. Not shown on OS 1st edition map of 1838 but a bridge exists in same general location on 1973 OS map. Reclamation of saltmarsh was carried out in the 16th and 17th centuries.


Small boat in channel in saltmarsh. Quite recent.


Line of large upright round timbers - probably meant to protect saltmarsh and bank behind.


Two areas of possible pits can be seen cut into the saltmarsh, Deben Estuary.
