BRAZILIAN LEATHER
Brazilian leather was a participant at the world’s most specialized commercial platform for supplying furniture and interior construction materials: the interzum fair. Five renowned Brazilian tanneries exhibited their hides with the support of the Brazilian Leather Project – an initiative of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) to encourage Brazilian leather’s participation in external markets. For José Fernando Bello, CICB’s executive president,
the fair ended with a very positive balance for Brazil. “Germany and Eastern Europe are important markets for Brazilian leather. Our
products with natural fi nishes and light touches were widely accepted among fair visitors,” he said. For Rogério Cunha from CICB’s Commercial Intelligence, due to the peculiarities of this market, Interzum has become a very important space for promoting Brazilian leather’s image and for networking. “Especially with already-established and loyal clients; it’s an industry event that’s highly valued by buyers, the media and all the segment’s people of infl uence,” added Cunha, noting that about 20 per cent of all the leather produced in Brazil is dedicated to the furniture industry.
