Burnout.Kitchen: Why this outdoor kitchen brand is targeting UK retailers pg 30
EDITOR’S COMMENT MERRY
CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
he December issue is always the perfect opportunity to look forward to the year ahead and, given the uncertainty and inevitable changes we’re facing in 2023, we’ve done something quite special this year. Firstly, we carried out a detailed survey to gauge how optimistic independent retailers currently are for the next 12 months and how confi dent they are in how their businesses, and the wider sector, will perform against what could be a very challenging economic backdrop. We’ve also asked a range of industry leaders and
infl uencers to speak directly to you, the independent retail community, about the year ahead. What are their predictions for 2023? Where do the opportunities for independents lie? Where are the dangers? Where will the industry go? And what can we look forward to? I won’t give too much away – as it really is a very interesting and
informative read (pgs 35-57) – but what I will say is that there does appear to be some very real opportunities on the horizon. The other good news – that I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for – is [cue drum roll] the return of the kbbreview Christmas Window Competition. We’re looking for the best Christmas window display in the independent kitchen, bedroom and bathroom retailer community. You now only have until December 9 to enter, so get creative! A huge thanks to Quooker for sponsoring this once again. All the details can be found at
kbbreview.com or on page 34.
On top of that, of course, we have our regular features, including an interesting shopfl oor analysis that looks at payment planning, in particular where retailers stand on paying suppliers if their goods are delayed. We’ve also got a great interview with Dan Carr, Magnet’s executive vice- president (pgs 24-25), and we turn the spotlight on Burnout, the outdoor kitchen brand looking to grow its presence in the UK (pgs 30-31). And fi nally, I would like to thank you all for your support this year and wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
