Pineapple Contracts has extended its contract furniture range with four new products. The new Esto and Vida recliners are

‘ideal’ for Oncology, Maternity, or Neonatal wards, and facilities for elderly and less mobile users. Esto, an easy-to-move, lightweight recliner with antibacterial lacquer finish, is ‘the ideal chair for areas where space is a premium’. Non-marking castors and brakes are available, with both flame-retardant and MRSA-resistant fabrics. The Esto chair has ‘excellent posture support, and a beautiful wave design to the sides and arms’.

The Vida recliner (pictured) features a

full lie-flat position for relaxation and rest, and optional riser-assist movement to aid standing for the less mobile, and reduce lifting injuries. The wing-back design gives optimum comfort and support. Also available in flame-retardant and MRSA- resistant fabrics, and with antibacterial lacquer finishes on timber arms, it features both single and dual action operation, allowing the seat footrest and back to be operated independently. The Rubus sofa, ‘for challenging

environments’, features modern styling, with optional reinforcement throughout. Available as a chair, or a two- or three- seater sofa, it incorporates ‘chrome feet that won’t rust’, and a fixed-back design. The Rondo, also available as a chair and

2.5 seater sofa, features ‘an eye-catching chrome ski leg’. The additional height clearance ‘brings more light in to the environment, and aids access for cleaning and hoists’. Its low back improves staff’s observation ability.

Hi-tech electrical system for

Nuneaton hospital Brandon Medical has supplied ‘state-of- the-art’ medical control and power products to a new Endoscopy Unit at Nuneaton’s George Eliot Hospital. The electrical system installed

comprises a Medipower Medical IT system incorporating two triple panel configuration systems which provide a safe power supply to patient areas, and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system, which uses a CANbus interface panel that enables devices to communicate with each other without a host computer. The network connects the UPS alarms with the Medical IT remote alarms, allowing each room to have a

remote alarm. The BMTi 5 remote alarms communicate operational status and any error messages from the power supply to clinical users. Brandon also supplied an advanced

40 kVA UPS Multi Sentry unit, designed to protect critical services including telecommunications, networks, and processes, from disruption caused by mains power supply problems. A dual input External Maintenance Bypass Panel provides ‘total safe isolation for UPS maintenance’, while alongside the UPS, a local Delta Zig Zag isolation transformer provides neutral generation at the UPS unit. Each endoscopy room is dual

fed from two Medical IT transformers supplied from the same input phase, delivering power at useable voltages and preventing dangerous 400V potentials.

Main contractor appointed for new neonatal unit

BAM Construction has been selected as preferred bidder for the construction of an £18 m unit to care for very sick and premature babies at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Denbighshire – the Sub-Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre (SuRNICC). Betsi Cadwaladr University Health

Board (BCUHB) made the appointment after funding was announced by Vaughan Gething, the Welsh Government’s Health Secretary. Construction has commenced, and the new development is expected to open in 2018. The project re-unites BAM’s

construction manager – North West, Rob Bailey, with a hospital at which he previously delivered a new cancer treatment centre about five years ago. He said: “We’ve been working with the Health Board for some time to develop the business case for the new neonatal facilities. I’m delighted that funding is now secured, and the scheme can be delivered. I’m very fortunate to be working with a client that has such an incredible life-changing impact for people in North Wales.” Apart from the new unit the scheme

includes a variety of other alterations. Preparatory work on site has already started, with the Welsh Government’s initial funding of £1.422 m also going towards upgrades to electrical infrastructure at the SuRNICC site, and an additional transport incubator for transferring the most critically ill and unstable babies.
