INSTITUTE NEWS From the Carter Agenda to mental health challenges
Next month’s Hospital Innovations Conference and Exhibition at Olympia London (being held from 25-26 April) will see Lord Carter give an update on the Carter Productivity and Efficiency Programme, while a second keynote speech will be given by Simon Corben, who in early April will move from his current role at Capita to become head of Estates and Facilities at NHS Improvement.
Organisers, Step Exhibitions, say the conference at the two-day event will ‘showcase current case studies and projects, with presentations by inspiring healthcare professionals, industry experts, representatives from leading NHS Trusts, and pioneering suppliers’. The full conference programme is now online on the event website –

Saving money, enhancing efficiency Among those showcasing innovative practice will be the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, and its technology partner, TeleTracking Technologies, who – as reported in February’s HEJ – will present on the implementation of real-time patient flow and tracking solution at the Trust’s New Cross Hospital that has helped the Trust optimise patient throughput, and significantly improved bed availability. The system provides staff with real-time location and status visibility of assets, staff, and patients. Speaking on the technology’s benefits – it has recently been adopted for use at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester – will be David Loughton, CEO at the Wolverhampton NHS Trust, and Michael Gallup, President, TeleTracking Technologies.

The Cumberland Initiative’s one-day day workshop (running from 11 am–4 pm) will report on the success of simulation, modelling, and analytics, in meeting these challenges, and provide ‘how-to guidance’ for taking the next steps. As a workshop, there will be space and the opportunity for delegates to present on their successes and challenges.”
