Out in the Park at Six Flags The amusement park goes gay for a night at this annual event, with DJs from Scarlet Bar and hostess Trannika Rex fueling a dance party in the park’s Hometown Square and appearances by queer personalities Amanda Lepore and Pablo Hernandez. Reeling: The Chicago International LGBTQ+ Film Festival The second-oldest queer film fest in the country marks its 33rd outing with a strong slate of features, documentaries and shorts. Various locations (773-293- 1447, reelingfilmfestival.org). $TBA. Sept 17–24.


Slanted Door: A Night of Queer Comedy and Storytelling Head to iO for a new take on LGBT life with this monthly evening of queer stand- up and storytelling. iO Chicago, 1501 N Kingsbury St (312-929- 2401, ioimprov.com/chicago). $14. Sept 19–Dec 19.

Charm Skokie’s Northlight Theatre comes into the city to stage a new play by Philip Dawkins that depicts a charm school for young LGBTQ people, taught by a transgender African-American woman named Mama Darleena Andrews. Marriage equality activist Evan Wolfson takes a victory lap at CHF. By Kris Vire


“I’ve never been so happy to be with an outfit that’s going out of business,” Vice President Joe Biden told the crowd at Freedom to Marry’s July gala in New York. No one could’ve been happier than activist Evan Wolfson, who’ll speak November 4 as part of the Chicago Humanities Festival’s fall Citizens program. Wolfson, 58, founded Freedom to Marry in 2001 and is widely recognized as one of the main players in the movement for nationwide marriage equality, which achieved victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in June. Freedom to Marry began winding down operations shortly thereafter. Citizens runs Oct 24–Nov 8 (chicagohumanities.org).

FREE Northalsted Halloween Parade Drag queens, pets and kids fill the streets of Boystown at the 19th annual Northalsted Halloween Parade. The event attracts a wonderful cross section of humanity

Mr. International Rubber Gear up (literally) for another fab fetish weekend, this time devoted to latex. The main competition, kink market and workshops will take place at the Center on Halsted, with a Sunday evening official after-party at Sidetrack. Look for additional tie-in parties at the likes of Manhole and

FREE Fabitat This all-inclusive LGBTQ night at Double Door’s Door No. 3 features live music, drag performances and DJ sets. It’s one of the most promising new alt-queer party outposts in town. FREE Formerly Known As Everyone seems to be in a good mood at this energetic and inclusive queer party that’s been going strong for several years now.
