East of Eden Nearly three decades after adapting John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath for Steppenwolf (and eventually winning a Tony Award for Best Play), Frank Galati returns to the author’s work with a new adaptation of Steinbeck’s sprawling tale of two families in early-20th-century California. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder In this comic operetta, which won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Musical, a scoundrel attempts to speed up landing a family inheritance by offing the relatives who stand in his way. The Revel Set in a rundown old coal town, this new play with music by Damon Kiely is loosely based on The Bacchae, recasting vengeful god Dionysus as gospel revivalist deacon. The TempestLarry Yando is Prospero in a new Tempest that sports quite the eclectic pedigree: It’s co-adapted and co-directed by Aaron Posner (Stupid Fucking Bird)
and Teller, of Penn & Teller, who has also designed the show’s magic. It features songs by the husband-and-wife team of Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, and choreography by dance collective Pilobolus.
