Woywod’s new 4-litre weigh- ing hopper is designed for

multiple materials into a blender and metering the combined materials into a processing machine. “The vastly enhanced operation of the new 4088
controller will increase the volume, speed, and reliability of data transfer of the Maguire blender,” said Kavanagh. “This means that valuable information on the makeup and consumption of the raw materials being metered into the moulding or extrusion process can be readily shared with third-party devices via any standard communica- tion protocol, making it possible to integrate Maguire blenders with today’s most advanced technologies.” The increased capacity of the 4088 controller and the new design of its software provide faster readings and more storage and make it easier to track down problems and make changes. In comparison with the Maguire 1212 controller, data
processing in the new system is increased from 16- to 32-bit; speed from 16 to 120MHz; and memory space from 12 to 96kB. Flash memory now is rated at 512kB internal and 8MB external; random access memory, at 96kB internal and 32MB external. The increased memory makes possible more storage for data logs and the ability to handle larger communication buffers.
Free flowing Woywod Kunststoffmaschinen is to introduce a new 4-litre weighing hopper (TRW 4L) for processing quantities up to around 80kg/h. This compact, low cost weighing hopper adds to the
company’s existing range of weighing hoppers and loss-in-weight systems. It is designed for granular, free flowing materials and regrinds and can be used in all areas of the plastic processing. The hopper fits into the Plasticolor modular system,
and can be used to upgrade existing equipment. Three different versions are available: a small hopper that is manually refilled by the operator; a version with an inlet funnel and hopper loader, for automatic refilling; and one with storage hopper and butterfly valve, for automatic refilling. In combination with the Plasticolor 1500 dosing unit,
it can be used as gravimetric single dosing unit or in colour change systems. The weighing hopper is positioned on a slanted extension in order to avoid collision with the main material hopper. Very small quantities can be dosed in gravimetric operation. Woywod has also developed an automatic discharge
and cleaning system for its Plasticolor volumetric dosing units and mixing stations. The operator places a container underneath the emptying hose, presses the cleaning button, and one minute later the unit is empty.

Round the bend Meanwhile, Coperion K-Tron will unveil several materials handling innovations at K2016, including the Gamma-Bend – a deflector elbow that prevents angel hair build-up, especially during 90° direction changes. As a result of the special geometric design as a sectional elbow, pellet grains only come into brief contact with the elbow wall and are transported directly to the next section without needing to glide at all. With its new Electronic Pressure Compensation
(EPC) system, the company presents a simple electronic solution for accurate and steady pressure compensation for feeder hoppers or outlets. Its main advantages include improved accuracy and reliability, lower initial cost and easier installation compared to traditional mechanical pressure compensation systems. The modular design incorporates pressure sensors and electronics tailored to interact with the company’s KCM feeder control system. Finally, its Smart Flow Meter is a high-precision
device that can feed, meter or record bulk material flows reliably and also be integrated into control systems. Gravity causes the material to flow into the upper measuring channel, which is designed as an inclined slide and is mounted on a load cell. Because only the force component that impacts the slide vertically is measured, all the abrasion influences are eliminated. The load cell in the vertical channel located below records the forces caused by the impact of the bulk material flow. The computer uses the two measured values to determine the actual flow rate per unit of time.
