Maillefer will highlight three


technologies at K2016


which boosts performance in the production of PEX and PE-RT pipe.


Athena heads are made with the addition of radial


modules. The radial distributors do not have any dead zones or edges, which eases the process of cleaning and assembly or disassembly. Radial spirals allow low-pressure losses and high flexibility in terms of layers structure (thick or thin layers) and number of layers, while their short flow path leads to reduced residence time and rapid material and colour changes. The Venus Multi features an innovative flow channel geometry, which has been calculated in consideration of the current raw material PE 100 CR and PP. This geometry assures the same behaviour for pressure and distribution of the melt in all the pipe heads at high output rate. The new feeding system of the spiral channels


contributes to reduced pressure, which helps to cut energy consumption during extrusion – as up to 10% of the extruder’s power is needed for the pumping capacity. Lower pressure also results in a lower increase of the melt temperature – and lower residence times improve the pipe’s characteristics with regard to oxidation resistance, and thermal and shear stress.


Triple innovation Maillefer will highlight three of its extrusion production technologies at K2016 – for micro-drip irrigation, heating and plumbing, and blown fibre micro-ducts. It says that its micro-drip irrigation lines include a series of innovations that target user friendliness, process repeatability, overall performance and produc- tivity. The company offers several models of manufac- turing systems configured to particular emitter types, whether they are flat or round, with thin or heavy walls. There are also cost-saving options – such as the dripper bowl and sorter equipment being exposed, says the company.


At the same time, there are new developments on the PXL and PCL lines for multi-layer heating and plumbing pipe. Keeping it simple offers the advantage of higher productivity and less downtime – as seen with Maillefer’s tandem extrusion configuration.

Maillefer offers a complete package for blown


(air-jetted) fibre infrastructures, from single micro-duct extrusion to large bundle jacketing. Productivity and minimum scrap are achieved thanks to solutions such as long-length barrel packing between the two process steps.


Baruffaldi is returning to its roots by launching a


new extrusion line. While the company is best known as a supplier of downstream equipment – such as profile cutting equipment – it began 60 years ago as a manu- facturer of extrusion tooling and machinery for the extrusion of various types of profiles. Its Omnia 1.0 has similar features to recent Baruffal- di-Primac plants, such as a design that is compact and robust, but Baruffaldi says it is also more flexible – al- lowing customers to adapt the line according to their own needs. There is a basic version and a fully ‘option- alised’ version – which comes complete with accesso- ries and integrated modular units. Features include: an energy-saving system on the


calibration table; and saving of waste material, thanks to a patented guillotine cutting system.
