Metal separa- tion ensures better quality end products, says Bunting
director, Sven Conrad. The system uses a cylindrical ‘separating head’ –
with knives arranged on its surface in a helical pattern – to move contaminant particles forward as the head rotates.
“This cleans much more efficiently than commercial
available filtration systems for highly contaminated polymers,” said Conrad.
Tomra’s sensor technology sorts plastic and detects metal
Sorting and separating Bunting Magnetics Europe will showcase a range of metal separation equipment at K2016, including magnetic separators and metal detectors. It will display a working metal separator (a drawer magnet grate, following by a metal detector), and a Quicktron metal detector. Also on the stand will be production-sized examples of FF drawer magnets, plate magnets and tube magnets. “When customers visit our stand, we want to show them the separation capabilities of our equipment,” said Dave Hills, head of sales at Bunting. “It’s one thing to say a piece of ferrous or non-ferrous metal will be separated, but another to actually show it happening.” Metal-contaminated
plastic will be gravity-fed into a feed hopper and immediately into a FF Drawer Magnet. Here,
magnetic particles are captured
before the remaining plastic falls into the Metal Detector – which identifies and rejects any
non-ferrous metals. Tomra Sorting will demonstrate its Autosort Flake
sensor technology. As well as sorting plastics, the Autosort Flake
detects metal – and its twin-processing mode offers high waste throughput and consistent, high quality output from a single machine. The Autosort Flake also incorporates the Reflect option, which gives customers more flexibility to sort all types of polymers by type and colour. It can be added to existing systems. Tomra technologies cover a broad range of plastic
materials, involving tasks such as separating coloured and clear types of PET and HDPE, , as well as PVC and PE foils. Depending on the individual case, the process will deliver consistent results and end qualities of up to 99.99%, says the company.
