API will be showing its Apinat bio-

based plastics

Com-Ital will use Plast to introduce a new bio-based ABS compound produced in Thailand by IRPC Petro- chemicals. Polimaxx Green ABS contains natural rubber rather than butadiene. The Italian thermoplas- tics distributor says that the material is currently undergoing testing and approval for a variety of applications in the country. ❙ www.com-ital.com

Dolder Massara will show the BactiBlock anti-microbial additive, developed by NanoBioMatters using a silver functionalised nano-clay to prevent the growth of bacteria, mildew and fungus in thermoplastics. According to Dolder, linking the silver to the clay helps dispersion of the active ingredient and helps to ensure consistent long-term protection. ❙ www.dolder.itwww.nanobiomatters.com

Italmatch Chemicals will introduce the latest develop- ments in its Phoslite flame retardants. These can be used in halogen-free PP compounds plus formulations with very low halogen contents that comply with the IEC 61249-2-21 norm. The additives are also suitable for halogen-free PBT or PA6 compounds that have very good glow-wire performance for electrical and elec- tronic applications. In addition, Phoslite can be used in halogen-free flame-retardant compounds based on PC, PC alloys, TPU, TPE and epoxy resins. The resulting materials have very good mechanical

performance, good ageing properties and full colour- ability, says Italmatch. ❙ www.italmatch.it

Microtec is an Italian-headquartered company special- ising in the production and distribution of masterbatch- es. At Plast 2012 it will be introducing its new Biocomp 100% biodegradable resin range. The bioplastics

incorporate vegetable and biodegradable polymer components and are suitable for extrusion or injection moulding. Target markets include the agriculture, catering, packaging and toy sectors. ❙ www.mastercolour.eu

Polysecure of Germany will be showing its anti- counterfeiting technologies for plastics. Its chemical markers are supplied as a powder with a particle size in the micro- or nano-metre range. Just a small amount of the additive is required to enable subsequent identification and verification using a portable RFA x-ray fluorescence spectrometer. ❙ www.polysecure.eu

Roquette will show its Gaialene line of bio-based plastics, which are produced using a proprietary starch grafting technology at its recently commissioned 25,000 tonnes/ year facility in northern France. Plant-based contents of more than 50% are claimed for the new resins, which are pitched at durable and semi-durable applications. Grades are available for injection moulding and extrusion applica- tions. All can be mechanically recycled. ❙ www.gaialene.com

Sanitized of Switzerland will introduce the latest additions to its range of antimicrobial products. The company has developed tailor-made products to provide long-lasting protection for formulations incorporating bio-based plasticizers. In addition, it will be showing products that provide anti-bacterial performance in biodegradable compounds used in agricultural or gardening applications.
