Icma San Giorgio, the Italian manufacturer of com- pounding and direct extrusion systems, will display two lines at Plast 2012. One will be based on a 40-mm co- rotating twin-screw extruder from the company’s HT Plus range. The machine has a 40 L/D ratio and boasts a water-cooled AC motor. It is designed to deliver extra torque and energy savings of up to 15% compared to the standard version. According to the company, it is particularly suited to the processing of materials that require high specific energy. The other Icma San Giorgio line on show in Milan will be based on one of the company’s HT co-rotating twin screw extruders. The 92 mm screw diameter, 48 L/D ratio machine will be fitted with two side feeders. It can be used for processing a variety of formulations, including PP with filler loadings up to 70%, or PA reinforced with up to 50% glass fibre. Wear resistant materials are used in the screws and barrel liners to handle abrasive materials. ❙ www.icmasg.it

Maris, the Italian manufacturer of twin-screw com- pounding lines, will be promoting an innovative process for recycling rubber. This involves devulcanizing the rubber in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. The company says that the thermo-mechanical process has a reduced environmental impact as it does not require any chemical agents. ❙ www.mariscorp.com

Piovan will show a number of different versions of its Lybra line of gravimetric and volumetric dosing units, including the Lybra GR version for masterbatch dosing in PET processing applications. Other equipment on display includes the Easy3 System material receivers and the Varyo line of vacuum units for compressed air

64 COMPOUNDING WORLD | April 2012

Pomini Rubber & Plastics, the Italian subsidiary of the HF Mixing Group, will be showing its new generation of twin-screw extruders for the post-mixing processing of rubber compounds. The Convex machines feature upgrades to the screw profile and the roller head and roll design. Cleaning has been simplified and the temperature control capacity has been improved. Pomini will also show Milex, a further evolution of this twin-screw extruder that is currently undergoing industrial trials. It is designed to replace open mills, delivering the same rubber distribution and mixing recovery. ❙ www.pomini-rp.com

Tecnova of Italy will display a line for recycling Nova- mont’s Mater-Bi starch-based bioplastics. The line features a novel grinder specifically developed for this application, plus a die-face cutter equipped with a cooling system. The resulting granules can be directly reintroduced into the extrusion process for the produc- tion of biodegradable film. ❙ www.tecnova-srl.it

Polymers and additives

API of Italy will be showing its Apinat biodegradable and bio-based plastics, including new grades which have been optimised for the production of wrapping films produced using either blown or cast extrusion lines. The resulting films are said to be tough and durable and they can be composted in compliance with both the European standard EN13432 as well as the require- ments of Italian law. ❙ www.apiplastic.it

Cereplast Italia, the Italian subsidiary of the US bioplas- tics compounder Cereplast, will be promoting its Compostables resins. These can be used for single-use disposable and packaging products including cups, straws, cutlery and bags. The company will also be focusing on its Sustainables product line that replaces up to 95% of the petroleum content in conventional plastics. Target markets include the automotive, electronics, medical, construction and consumer goods sectors. Last year, Cereplast purchased a compounding plant in Assisi, Italy. The 11,600 m2

facility will have an initial

capacity of 50,000 tons/year when it is completed in the final quarter of this year 2012. ❙ www.cereplast.com
