BD Plast will be highlighting its latest developments in melt filtration systems. The Italian company has also added melt pipes, elbows and adaptors to its product range. A complete frame with a five-layer cast melt pipe group will be displayed with heaters, wiring and five different screen-changers from simple mechanical to hydraulic designs. In addition, a single-plate hydraulic screen-changer for high throughputs will be shown alongside a continuous flow dual-plate model with a new sealing system. ❙

have seen solid value growth on 2010, according to Assocomaplast. The association says that its members have indicated the key themes for plastics processing technology at Plast will be energy saving and simplified utilisation of recycled materials. Many international machinery and materials
suppliers used the NPE exhibition, which was held earlier this month in Orlando, USA, to launch their new products for 2012. Plast will be a first opportunity to see large numbers of these in Europe. Our 16-page NPE preview in the March edition of Compounding World covered a wide range of the new launches for the compounding market. Over the following pages we focus on some of the other products to look out for in Milan with a particular emphasis on Italian suppliers.
Machinery and
equipment Bandera, the Italian extrusion systems supplier, will be showing machines both at the exhibition and at its factory in Busto Arsizio, which is a 10-minute drive away. The company will provide a shuttle service between the two locations. Its factory display will include a direct extrusion line
based around a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with a 52 L/D ratio. This can be used for producing films and sheets for thermoforming and industrial applications based on PET, PLA, PP or PS. Co-extruded products with up to three layers can be made at rates up to 1,200 kg/h. At the exhibition itself, Bandera will be showing a co-
rotating twin-screw 2C85mm extruder with a 52 L/D ratio. This can be used for compounding or film/sheet extrusion applications. It will also display a counter- rotating twin-screw 2B extruder with 90 mm diameter

Euroviti has developed a new range of bimetallic barrels for twin-screw extruders. Two versions are currently available – the EUV400 and EUV1000 with tungsten carbide. They provide good and very good resistance to wear, abrasion and corrosion respectively. The barrel sections can be simply renovated with new liners. The company also manufactures screws and screw elements using special coatings including tungsten carbide, ceramics and molybdenum. ❙

Gamma Meccanica will be in Milan to highlight its pilot GM65 Compac recycling line. This features a shredder, extruder, screen-changer and cutter. The shredder/ densifier can receive material from a conveyor or pre- shredder. Its power control system maintains a constant material temperature without the use of water. According to the company, this reduces the energy consumption by as much as 40% and allows the recycling of material with a moisture content up to 15%. The modular extruder can be supplied with a standard degassing system, or in a short version without degassing for processing dried materials. ❙

Gneuss will be promoting its Multi Rotation System MRS extruder which can process PET or PLA without pre-drying. It features a drum containing eight satellite single screws. The “barrels” are approximately 30% open and provide optimum exposure of the melt. Thanks to this design, the devolatilizing performance is 50 times greater than that of a conventional single- screw extruder, according to Gneuss. The company will also be showing its melt filtration
systems and its latest measurement technology for extruders. The latter includes its DA pressure trans- ducer that has a special coating to withstand abrasive
