PP gains a brand new matchmaker
Dow Elastomers is close to commercialising its new Intune polypropylene-based olefin block copolymers. These are described as tuneable compatibilizers that enable the combination of non-polar and polar polymers with PP. For example, they can be used to combine PP with PE, EVOH, PA or polyolefin elastomers, providing benefits from each material while minimizing trade-offs in properties. The company says that
the new technology can be used to produce unique blends and multi-layer structures. Samples are already available and commercial production is scheduled for early 2014. Target markets include packaging, consumer durables, transportation, construction, and wire and cable, among others. ❙

Stabilizers developed for various outdoor products
Cytec has launched its Cyasorb Cynergy Solutions R333 stabilizer for UV durable rotomoulded polyethylene tanks, containers and leisure equipment. It says that the additive provides better productivity and energy savings. With R333, the cure time
needed to achieve optimum impact properties is reduced by up to 20%, claims the company. Additional benefits include outstanding part colour out of the mould, and superior thermal and UV protection. Cytec has also introduced

Polypropylene receives soft touch
Asahi Kasei Plastics has developed a soft-touch polypropylene compound for automotive interior applica- tions. The patent-pending Soform material is said to
retain its integrity as a structural lightweight plastic, while providing a soft-to-the- touch surface. Target applications for the new PP compound include
automotive trim parts and components such as interior door panels and other surfaces where a good tactile experi- ence is desired. ❙

New wollastonite delivers extra strength
Nyco has launched new high-strength reinforc- ing wollastonite grades for polyolefin applica- tions in the automotive, transportation, appliance and furniture markets. These new grades – Nylite and Nyglos 4W
STO105 – are claimed to provide improvements in stiffness, HDT and mar scratch resistance compared to competitive fine talc and other reinforcing minerals. Nylite is a special blend of wollastonite and
a proprietary additive. It is chemically modified for weight reduction without loss of key physical properties. Nylite can also be used as a

cost-effective extender or replacement for expensive non-conductive milled carbon fibre. Nyglos 4W STO105 is an ultrafine, high-
aspect-ratio wollastonite that is chemically modified with a new treatment to provide improved feeding and dispersion. It also delivers good scratch resistance and is designed to offer improved properties versus milled glass fibre at lower costs. Both wollastonite grades are non-toxic and
odourless. Downstream side feeding into the melt is recommended to optimise performance. ❙
