news Aston Martin hit by fake DuPont PA
Aston Martin has recalled 17,590 cars after it discovered that a Chinese sub-supplier was moulding a throttle pedal component using a counterfeit polyamide material. The UK sports car maker had specified a DuPont PA 6 grade for the part, but discovered that it was being moulded using PA 6 and PA 6.6 that was not from DuPont, but was being shipped in fake DuPont PA 6 packaging. The pedal arms were being moulded by Shenzhen Kexiang Mould Tool using PA supplied by Synthetic Plastic Raw Material of Dongguan. Following the discovery of

Aston Martin is recalling most of the luxury sports cars it has produced since 2007
working with DuPont to directly supervise the delivery of the correct polymer for moulding the pedal arms. It is also planning to move the manufacture of the pedal arms from China to the UK “as soon as possible in 2014”. According to Aston Martin,
there have been no reports of any accidents related to the
potentially faulty parts. The recall covers the majority of cars that it has produced since 2007.
DuPont has issued a
statement, saying: “The best protection that customers and end-users have against counterfeit products and the potential consequences of their use in highly engineered
systems is to ensure that they and their supply chains buy only from DuPont and their authorized distributors”. Details of the recall and the

Lehmann & Voss of Germany has opened a new office in Shanghai to support the sales and marketing of its Luvocom high-perfor- mance compounds and Luvobatch additive master- batches in China. The company, which
already operates Chinese offices in Dalian and Beijing, says that it plans to follow its Shanghai investment with a local laboratory and applications development centre. It is also planning to open a production facility in the Shanghai area in the “medium term”. ❙
