Solvay licenses RTP for Radel

Solvay’s Speciality Polymers business has fi nalised a licensing agreement that enables RTP Company, a compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics, to manufacture and market its Radel R-7000 series of polyphenylsulfone resins to the commercial aircraft industry. Solvay said the deal will

expand global supply channels for the resins while helping to shorten lead times and broaden customers’ options. It will continue to manufacture, sell and distribute the Radel R-7000 polymers; RTP will now also sell them under its existing brand and grade designations, with a particular focus on smaller lot sizes of custom colours that match the colour palettes of aircraft

OEMs or individual airlines. “This agreement is a

natural fi t for Solvay, given RTP’s recognised global compounding and distribution capabilities and our long- standing relationship selling a broad range of polymers across multiple markets, including aerospace,” said Michael Finelli, senior vice president of sulfone polymers for Solvay Speciality Polymers. Radel R-7000 resins are

formulated specifi cally for use in aircraft cabin interior applications, such as seating, passenger service units, stow bins and air grills, and have been used in the Airbus A320 and many Boeing models, including the 777 and 787. They comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations on fl ammability, heat release, smoke genera- tion and toxic gas emissions.  www.solvay.com
