deliveries recovered,” he said. The growth in plastics machinery demand for Euromap members is, at present, being driven by the North American and European markets. While exports of European plastics and rubber machinery to the US in 2014 were almost unchanged on the
previous year at a value of €1.0bn, the market remains very strong (total plastics and rubber machinery imports into the US totalled €2.0bn). “We experienced signifi cant growth in the US and that is due to reshoring. That has created a large number of jobs and signifi cant activity in the plastics industry,” said Anceschi. The European market is
also performing strongly. Euromap data shows deliver- ies to European customers
totalled €4.1bn in 2014, up by 8% on 2013. Europe accounts for around 43% of exports from Euromap member companies. The association’s data
shows China’s production of plastics and rubber machinery also continues to rise. Chinese plastics and rubber machinery
production reached a value of €10.9bn in 2014, up by 17% on 2013 and close to the Euro- pean output of €13.0bn (China now accounts for 34% of the
total world production of €32.5bn). But while it is closing the gap in terms of production value with Euro- pean producers, China remains a long way behind in terms of exports. “Despite China’s
[production] share rising Euromap elects new board
Europe’s plastics and rubber machinery association Euromap elected its new management board at its General Meeting in Venice earlier this month. Luciano Anceschi, CEO of Italy-based Tria, was re-elected to the post of President. Thorsten Kühmann (pictured near right), Managing Director Plastics and Rubber Machinery at the VDMA, was also re-elected Secretary General. The post of Vice President went to Dr Karlheinz Bourdon (pictured far right), Senior Vice President Technologies at KraussMaffei. He takes over the position from Helmut Heinson, Director of Sales at Arburg. Lilli Rudnick was elected Treasurer.

sharply over the past few years, Euromap managed to hold its own. The same applies to exports, with Euromap maintaining a market share of around 50% over the past fi ve years,” said outgoing Euromap Vice President Helmut Heinson. The association’s data shows Chinese plastics and rubber machinery exports stood at €2.5bn in 2014 against

makers are strongest at the high technology end of the plastics machinery market. However, Heinson, who is also Sales Director at injection machinery maker Arburg, said that Europe’s machinery makers are very aware they need to be more competitive at all levels in the market in the future.
“Some time ago we carried
out a survey of the business. What we found is that the technical level [of plastics machinery] will increase in China, Taiwan, etc. They will be able to produce technical machines like we can in fi ve years. What we have to learn is how to produce for the commodity market,” Heinson said.
