2016 preview | Polymers and additives

Heroflon Group will introduce its new range of Heromelt high performance plastics at the show, including Heromelt FP Fluorothermoplastics, Heromelt FP PEEK blends and Heromelt colour fluoro masterbatches. The Italian company has a long history in formulating tailor-made PTFE based special products for technical and critical component applications in automotive, aerospace, hydraulic, mechanical and chemical plants. It claims to have taken advantage of that expertise to develop the new product lines, which include FEP, PFA and ETFE fluoropolymers and fluoropolymer/PEEK blends with a variety of fillers. ❙ www.heroflon.com

Ineos Styrolution will present its latest styrenic grades for applications in the electronics, medical, automotive and housewares. Novodur SBM-90, for example, carries full approval to the latest European drinking water contact regulations and is intended to provide a drop-in replacement for existing ABS programmes. It is available in natural or pre-coloured versions. Novodur Ultra is an optimised laser-weldable

styrenic suitable for automotive interior applications. The new grade offers high impact strength at room and low temperatures, 100% ductility at -30 °C, high heat resistance and high flow. Also pitched at automotive applications, Stylight is a thermoplastic composite sheet product suitable for thermoforming, back-injec- tion and decoration in integrated injection moulding processes. Potential applications include body panels, brake pedals and instrument panels. The company believes Stylight will offer an alternative to the PA and PP-based sheet products currently being developed for thermoplastic composite applications. Terluran Standard White ABS is a new grade with bright intrinsic colour that the company says will raise the bar for ABS used in the electronics and household goods sector. The new grade is said to be ideally suited for on-machine self-colouring with either liquid or solid

colorants. in the medical sector, the company will show a new high transparency Styrolus SBC and development Novodur ABS that offers improved resistance to harsh chemical cleaning agents. ❙ www.ineos-styrolution.com

Krahn Chemie will display pearlescent pigments from Fuzhou Kuncai Fine Chemicals, and titanium dioxide from Ruichem. The company will also be promoting the OXSOFT L9TM plasticiser from OXEA Chemicals. Krahn has worked with Fuzhou Kuncai Fine Chemi-

cals for several years and will show at K2016 the compa- ny’s Setallic, Syacarb, Plovence and Kyntaline series pigments. These are the latest additions to Kuncai’s pearlescent effect pigment lines, which are said to be characterised by a strong luminous lustre. OXSOFT L9TM from OXEA Chemicals is intended to

present an alternative to C8/10 trimellitates, which Krahn says are often in short supply. L9TM is a linear trinonyl- trimellitate based on n-Nonanol and is said to be suitable for cable, film, tube and artificial leather production. ❙ www.krahn.eu

Tosaf will present a full range of masterbatch additives for production of high performance and extended shelf-life packaging, including humidity absorbers, oxygen barrier and ethylene control products. The company’s humidity absorbers can transform standard multi-layer PE packaging into an active packaging system, addressing both ambient and headspace humidity and simultaneously boosting impermeability of the packaging and its internal absorption. The company’s oxygen barrier compounds allow high barrier perfor- mance to be achieved even in three-layer packaging constructions, while oxygen absorber masterbatches can provide additional protection by managing headspace humidity. Tosaf also offers an ethylene control master- batch which can help regulate ripening. ❙ www.tosaf.com
