Brabender Technologie

has developed this new feeder to handle long and uneven length fibres

and gently feeds the main PE powder component directly into the pelletising extruder. However, the Smart Flow Meter is suitable for feeding free-flowing bulk materials such as powders, granules, chips or fibres in a wide range of plastics com- pounding operations. With no moving parts, the K-SFM is said to have no mechanical impact on the bulk material. In operation, bulk material

flows under gravity into the upper measuring channel, an inclined chute mounted on a force transducer, where the force acting perpendicularly on the chute is measured as mass. The material then flows into a lower, vertical channel where velocity or acceleration rate is determined. The flow rate per unit time is determined from these two signals. Coperion K-Tron has also developed the K-Vision Line

Controller for maximising product quality while minimis- ing the need for direct feeder supervision. According to

the company, K-Vision is a graphical operator interface capable of control- ling up to 16 devices such as feeders or vacuum receivers in a single process line. It uses a 12.1-inch colour LCD display and touchscreen as the primary operator input mechanism. A quad screen display mode allows viewing of multiple pages. Designed for simple operation and

fast and easy start-up, K-Vision offers graphic visualisation of process information through the use of flexible, easy to use trend graphs. The feeder interface provides event logging and supports all of

the different feeding control types for both continuous and batch operation. The K-Vision also offers a variety of remote access options - a second K-Vision can be connected via Ethernet as a remote interface for visuali- sation and control of feeder and line parameters – while an integrated VNC server allows any VNC client (PC, tablet or smartphone) connected to the same network
